Using OpenVPN With Ubuntu-Mint Network Manager

1. Open the terminal

2. Install the network manager openvpn by typing the following into the terminal:

sudo apt-get install network-manager-openvpn and hit Return or Enter
sudo apt-get install network-manager-openvpn-gnome [for Ubuntu 16+]

3. Restart the Network Manager by disabling and enabling the network

        

4. Click on the Network Manager Icon (top right menu bar), click Edit connections; Click the 'Add' button in the Network Settings Window that opens

    

5. Click Create to create a new VPN interface; Choose OpenVPN for Connections type

6. In the Editing VPN connection window, Enter the following details:

  1. Connection name: OctaneVPN
  2. Gateway: gw1.mia4.octanevpn.com or choose a gateway from here
  3. Type: Password
  4. Username: Your OctaneVPN Username
  5. Password: Your OctaneVPN Password
  6. CA Certificate: octanevpn.crt ( Download the OctaneVPN CA Certificate )

7. Click Advanced near the bottom of the window. In the General tab

  1. Custom gateway port: 443 or 8888
  2. Custom MTU: 1557
The Security tab
  1. Cipher: AES-256-CBC
  2. Click OK;
  3. Click Save

8. Click the Network icon in the menu bar and activate the VPN. You may be prompted for the system password
